"1 in 3 College students would consider Stripping or sex work"
1/3 = "most"?
WT is wacky but don't overstate it.

"watching the world" in awake has always been used as a tool to promote certain doctrines like blood, the u.n etc.
in the new "step-parents" awake magazine, it has an article claiming how 1 in 3 college students would consider stripping or sex work to pay for it!!!
anti college propaganda????

exciting times.... son moved out of his jw home this week amid uproar from mother because he has follwed my advice about moving out and starting a new job.
visited him tonight in his new digs and he said: "don't know if i am going to stay in the truth"...!.
my advice was if that is what he wants to do then perhaps now is the time to not go to the new local hall and do a fade.... daughter read animal farm for school and commented: "i can see a few similarities to the jws in that story".... my response was well, wait till you read 1984 darling!
Always good to hear about young'uns waking up early.
Who knows, maybe losing her kids could possibly be enough to get your ex to reexamine her beliefs. It would be great if your kids could have both their freedom AND a relationship with their mother.
All the best to you and yours.

omg, today is the forum's 12th birthday !.
omg x 2 - i said the word 'birthday' and no-one was beheaded !
lol.
Thanks so much to Simon and Angharad for keeping this place going.!!!!
It was an absolute psychological lifeline for me in the early days.
Now I just pop in from time to time and try to give back where I can.
Simon, just curious if its not too personal, but how old are your "little" ones getting to be now?

i've been lurking here since late last year...was very hesitant to join the forum because of fear that satan would control my pc.... .
i'm born in, but always had my little doubts about "the truth" since i was young, but went ahead and got baptized ect.... .
i stumbled upon this site while looking for a km and initially thought it was a jw forum, but after seeing some of the titles of various threads, i thought to myself "i'm on an apostate website".
Welcome to the board!!
And since no one else has spouted this oft-used quote, I will now:
"I'd rather have questions I can't answer than answers I can't question."
Enjoy your journey.
(But in the early days, talk here and keep your thoughts to yourself around the JWs in your life.)

i recall a jw telling me that.... "they" meaning scientists, had done study's on lions in zoo's and discovered that if they gave lions straw and grass to eat that the lions became very passive and no longer showed predator behavior??
now they never explained who "they" were, or were these "study's" had been done or why based on these study's lions are not now fed grass etc
has anyone else heard this for real?
Thanks TD. Do you know if the "loyal JW" got a reply?
It is so galling the way the Watchtower claims to be humble but when it comes down to publicly admitting they screwed up, they just brush it under the carpet and hope no one notices.

Most JWs are unaware of the weasel words the WT quietly slipped into the Isaiah books when they came out. (Thanks AnonJW for providing the reference here.)
Therefore, from the standpoint of the Israelites, the lion was, in effect, eating straw like a bull, that is, doing no harm to them or their domestic animals.
"In effect" means it's now just symbolic. And "domestic" animals means the lions can chew up all the gazelles they want. But you have to be particularly tuned in to this issue, (like TD was) to catch it.
No big retraction necessary, but someone in writing covered up yet another bit of WT ridiculousness.

so my whole life i heard the phrase 'faithful and discrete slave' and never paid attention to the real meaning of "discrete".
which is weird, because i'm a bit of a word junkie.
i guess the familiarity of the expression made me mentally gloss over it somehow.
The way I remember the difference is that in the word that means "separate" (discrete) the "e"s are separated.
I only knew the difference because way back in the days of dinosaurs and cassette tape decks, I paid a boat load of money for a "3 head, discrete, tape deck". Supposedly having the play, record and erase heads physically separated made for superior performance. So for the price of several hundred dollars, I learned the word "discrete". But spending that much on a tape deck was not "discreet".
OK, climbing down off my electronic nerd soap box now.

my family (wife and teenage kids) and i awakened to the true nature of the wt society a couple years ago and are fairly well faded now.. .
my son attends high school with a couple of jws, one of whom is an elder's son and an ardent true believer.
let's call him "con".
Note to sizemik: Looks like I've made it onto djegnogg's Do Not Call list too.
Oh well.

stapler99: "It looks as if Con has been the victim of religious bigotry."
How so? My son never said a word to him. I'm guessing you missed this part of the OP.
"My son is biting his tongue, rolling his eyes and screaming to himself: "
Con managed to look like an arrogant know-it-all in front of everyone else all on his own.
You make a valid point about both religions having a cultural claim to the Passover, although it's way more peripheral for JWs. However, being aware of how society at large views a given holiday is a good idea particularly for those looking to persuade and proselytize. Jews have laid claim to the Passover for thousand of years. JWs to a much lesser degree and for only 130 years.
If I was Con trying to make a good impression to my classmates about JWs, I would have let the Jewish girl do her thing and then discreetly made inquiries later.
Just my $.02
flipper: Thanks for commiserating bro.

To hamsterbait and sizemik:
I've never entered into any back-and-forth with djeggnog before, just thought I'd give it a shot.
It will probably be about as rewarding as my dialogue with renaiia.
